Job description
The successful candidate will undertake specialist technical and analytical duties for the diagnostics and clinical research activities of the Precision Medicine Centre of Excellence (PMC). This will involve carrying out experimental and analytical molecular diagnostics and genomics investigations.
You will be responsible for the validation and
standardisation of new techniques and tests, including the provision of multiple genomics technologies, specifically Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) protocols in tissue and plasma samples as well as well as H&E, Immunohistochemistry and scanning slides for digitalisation.
You will also assist in training of new staff members and visitors as well as to contribute to the development and data management relating to the technical and analytical aspects of the Centre.
This is a fixed term position until 31 January 2023
The successful candidate must have:
Academic and/or vocational qualifications ie HND/HNC or NVQ level 4 in relevant subject (or equivalent, i.e. Biomedical Science, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry).
Minimum 4 years relevant work experience within a Health Science laboratory that includes molecular pathology.
Significant experience with NGS.
Experience in a CPA/UKAS environment.
Experience with tissue-based work and clinical samples for molecular analysis
The Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology (CCRCB) sits within the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences and the Precision Medicine Centre (PMC) is a new clinical laboratory bringing together high-throughput genomics, digital pathology and big data analytics in a fully integrated fashion. The PMC aims to accelerate the translation of potentially relevant diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic findings into clinically actionable information by applying state-of-the-art technology in a clinical laboratory environment. Our partnerships and collaborations with industry, academia and healthcare organisations maximises the potential to capitalise on the value of integrated clinical and biomarker information to improve patient's outcome.
The PMC operates within a structure of two core interconnected sections - Genomics and Tissue Hybridization & Digital Pathology, linked by a Bioinformatics team and supported by a dedicated management team. The PMC, working in partnership with the successful Northern Ireland Biobank (NIB), is integrated in an existing molecular programme honed by successful research grant funding investment of several million, infrastructure programmes and clinical trials.
