About the Apprenticeship:
With excellent customer service at the heart of everything we do, our Technician Apprenticeship Scheme will develop the next generation of technicians to work in our world-class research centres, laboratories, and workshops, supporting the research and teaching we deliver. Our technicians will work with academic/research and administrative staff, and students, to maintain the highest standard of delivery.
The Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences is offering an exciting opportunity to join Queen’s University as a Mechanical Engineering Workshop Technician in one of the following areas:
As an apprentice you will join established technical teams in one of the Schools and will be provided with an excellent opportunity to start a career as a University Technician. During the apprenticeship you will learn & develop the necessary skills, expertise and experience to provide assistance to the members of the technical team and ultimately be able to fully perform the role of Laboratory Technician in your chosen discipline.
In partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College, Learning and Development will include on-job-training, mentoring and the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification (Mechanical Engineering: City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Engineering, City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Engineering, Level 3 Diploma in Engineering - NVQ Competence Based Assessment). Enrolment and meeting the College requirements for the relevant course/qualification will be required; further guidance will be given to successful applicants. On completion of the Level 3 apprenticeship there may be the opportunity to progress to a higher level apprenticeship.

It is envisaged shortlisting will take place week commencing 12 June 2023, following which shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend Queen’s University on 19 June 2023 where you will be required as part of the selection process, to undertake a short online assessment. You will also be given the opportunity to tour our labs/workshops. Applicants who are successful at this assessment will be invited to an in person interview on 28/29/30 June 2023.
Anticipated Key Dates:

Stage 2 Interview: 28/29/30 June 2023
Stage 3 Successful applicants notified: mid-July 2023
Apprenticeships are designed to develop new knowledge and skills at a higher level than you already have, or in a new vocational area. So, you will not be eligible to apply if you already hold the same or similar qualification in the vocational area of the apprenticeship.
