Professor of Psychology (Clinical or Health)
Job description
The School of Psychology holds a Gold Athena SWAN award that recognises the work that it has done in supporting gender equality.
The School of Psychology wishes to appoint a Professor in the area of Clinical or Health Psychology. The School has an active group of researchers in the areas of health and clinical psychology, within the new Centre for Improving Health-Related
Quality of Life:
(CIHRQoL
www.qub.ac.uk/schools/psy/Research/ResearchThemes/hce/
).
Research in this area within the School includes: the psychological factors that explain health-related outcomes in people with physical illness; psychological interventions to improve these outcomes; and the measurement of health-related quality of life.
We have strong collaborative links within the University with the School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing and School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, and ongoing, productive national and international collaborations. We have excellent links with other Clinical Psychologists and Health Psychologists in the region and with local medical doctors, dentists, nurses and allied health professionals. The School of Psychology is also in close proximity to the two largest hospitals in Northern Ireland, where we have ongoing research collaborations. These links facilitate successful research funding (from research councils and medical research charities), attract high quality PhD students, and produce a substantial number of internationally recognised research outputs.
The School runs a professional doctoral training programme in Clinical Psychology and is currently planning to enhance its postgraduate taught provision in clinical and health psychology. Health and Clinical Psychologists within the School hold positions of leadership within the British Psychological Society, and are nationally recognised for their work in the development of postgraduate training.
Further information About the School can be found here
Applicants must conduct research in an area of Clinical or Health Psychology that consolidates and enhances existing research strengths in the School. They must have an outstanding track record of research excellence, as well as extensive experience of teaching psychology undergraduates and supervising PhD students.
Informal enquires may be directed to Professor Teresa McCormack, email:
