Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work on anEPSRC funded project: 'Hydrates in solution - probing pre-aggregation ofhydrate-forming APIs and water in solution'
Hydrated crystal forms incorporating water into theircrystal structure are an especially challenging class of pharmaceuticalmaterials to work with, as due to thermodynamic reasons these modifications showthe lowest solubility in water and thus directly impact bioavailability andpharmacological effect of the drug compound. This project aims at developing aprediction tool for hydrate forms for the direct application in pharmaceuticalindustry. The methodology will be based on infrared and 1D/2D NMR spectroscopyin combination with computational methods.
The post is full time and fixed term for 12 months. Thesuccessful candidate will be working with Dr Katharina Edkins (PI) in theSchool of Pharmacy.
Thesuccessful candidate will hold a PhD in Chemistry, Pharmaceutics or relatedfield and will be working on selected model APIs chosen for their hydrateforming characteristics and the stability of the hydrated crystal form. Thepost will involve IR and NMR titrations, related analysis and model fitting,solid-state analytics and DFT calculations.
