Job description
It is an exciting time for the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences (MHLS) in relation to education and research. Our development of Global Research Institutes in Health and Food Security enriches our portfolio of world-leading postgraduate programmes, while our exceptional track record of providing a thought-leading learning and research environment
is widely admired.
We work in close partnership with government and industry, nationally and internationally, playing a key leadership role in many global efforts to find solutions to complex and critical issues facing society. Our globally recognised excellence in education and research is evident in programmes that are designed to produce the next generation of leaders in a postgraduate community that is truly international.
Our Faculty drives an agenda where innovation, interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches are central. We are increasing the emphasis on Distance Learning to provide flexible ways for students to attain Postgraduate Certificates, Diplomas and Masters Degrees. We also offer students the opportunity to gain practical experience through placements, projects and field trips to enhance their employability. Strong research expertise underpins our postgraduate programmes and the research credentials of our world-leading academics.
Graduates from many different disciplines, and many countries, studying for higher degrees by research are most welcome and are an essential dimension of our world-leading research centres. These students have a unique opening to study and work alongside dynamic teams of academics and postdoctoral researchers, and opportunities to attend and present work at national and international conferences are promoted and supported
The Teaching Associate will report to the Dean of Internationalisation and will provide English Language support and instruction to international students within the Faculty particularly postgraduate research students. Their core responsibility will be to develop appropriate English Language teaching and assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and advise students on their progress. This will include setting and marking coursework, setting and marking examination questions.
This post is available for 30 months.
