Director, Centre for Public Health
Job description
The Director is responsible for the Centre's research programme and for delivering a comprehensive vision for public and global health research at Queen's.
In addition to providing leadership and strategic direction to the Centre, the Director will be fully responsible, through the current devolved accountability model, for the management of all financial,
physical and human resources within the Centre, as well as for corporate governance.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified clinical or non-clinical candidates at Professorial level who must be able to demonstrate academic leadership gained over a sustained period. S/he should have a track record of leading research programmes with impact, high quality publications at an international level of excellence in internationally recognised journals, derived from a succession of successfully completed awards/projects, and a sustained track record of attracting substantial grant income as PI.
The appointee will have strong leadership skills with the ability to set strategic direction, influence policy and strategy and deliver change. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to provide leadership and to motivate and develop highly performing teams as well as in the management and administration of research activity, including the management of significant financial, human and physical resources. The appointee will also be expected to continue to provide leadership to his/her own research programme while carrying out the role of Director. Ability to lead teams, to forge team spirit and coherence in order to achieve the Centre's objectives is essential.
Experience in leading innovative postgraduate curricula which align with research strategy is desirable.
The appointee will have outstanding communication skills in order to successfully present and negotiate at institutional, national and international levels and influence senior policy makers. S/he will have the ability to establish successful relationships and work in partnership with stakeholders from a range of sectors.
Most importantly, s/he must demonstrate the commitment to and enthusiasm for creating a world class Centre for Public Health in the context of the overall vision of the School/Institute.
