The research will focus on exploring novel data structures and algorithms for agent based simulation in the Cloud using many-core and distributed processing systems. These will be implemented in common programming languages such as Python and Java and be used as enablers for event-driven simulation of manufacturing designs that exhibit emergent behaviour and irregular or unpredictable growth of their components. Theses imulations will in turn link to CAD systems to produce visually appropriate design models. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Dimitrios Nikolopoulos and will be a member of a prolific interdisciplinary team of experts in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Professor Mark Price,Dr Trevor Robinson and Dr Declan Nolan) and Computer Science (Professor Dimitrios Nikolopoulos). The candidate will be a Research Fellow of the Queen's Global Research Institute on Electronics,Communications and Information Technology (ECIT) and will benefit from the vibrant ECIT research environment, which brings together over 200 academic researchers, engineers, and business development experts to jointly explore Digital Technology Futures. The candidate will also be expected to assist in the development of new research activity and research proposals within the broader area of software and artificial intelligence technologies for intelligent manufacturing.
