Job description
The School of Biological Sciences is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. It is made up of three research disciplines, including Ecosystems Biology & Sustainability, Food Safety & Nutrition, and Microbes & Pathogen Biology. Most staff within the School are also members of the Institute for Global Food Security GRI: the
Institute is ranked No 1 in the UK for research intensity in Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Sciences (REF 2014). The School aims to enhance the way we use technology in research, food security, microbiology, ecosystem biology, sustainability and many other related areas. The School prides itself on providing innovative teaching methods and a high-tech learning environment for our students.
Applications are invited for a permanent lectureship within the discipline of Environmental Microbiology in the School of Biological Sciences and Institute for Global Food Security at Queen's University Belfast. Candidates should be able to demonstrate strengths in the study of microbial nutrient cycling, coupled to a proficiency in microbial biochemistry, metagenomics and metatranscriptomics with overlapping experience in one or more related areas, such as waste treatment, sustainability and/or anaerobic microbiology.
Applicants' research should complement the on-going activities of the School's Microbes & Pathogen Biology, and/or Ecosystem Biology and Sustainability research themes, and also align to one of the University's Global Research Institutes (GRI) or Pioneer Research Programmes. Additionally applicants should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education and a willingness to engage in the broader administration and management of taught degree programmes.
