Research Fellow
Job description
The Centre for Experimental Medicine is an interdisciplinary research centre which is committed to the highest quality scientific endeavour, with over 250 basic and clinical scientists working on site. Our mission is to understand the mechanisms of disease and use that understanding to develop innovative new treatments and therapies to improve patient
outcomes. We are based in Belfast in the award winning Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine.
The Research Fellow will be a highly productive, ambitious and collaborative member of research group led by Dr Anna D Krasnodembskaya in the Centre for Experimental Medicine. The position will involve working as part of a research programme that is investigating therapeutic potential of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSC) based therapies for treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). The purpose of this project is to assess the functional role of miRNAs secreted in MSC extracellular vesicles in the in vivo and in vitro models of ARDS with specific focus on the role of secreted miRNAs on modulation of macrophage phenotype and function. The successful Research Fellow will seek to lead this ambitious cutting edge research project and will be involved with supervision, planning, day-to-day lab management, collaborations and outreach.
