This is a unique opportunity to pioneer a very new type of liquid solvent (porous liquid) toward a critical area of application (CO2 capture). We are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral researcher to work with Professor Stuart James (School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering) on a collaborative project with input from industrial partners and other academics, funded by InvestNI.
The project will require you to construct and implement a small-scale test rig on-site for the separation of CO2 from biogas. The system will make use of new porous liquid solvents developed in the James group. You will thus work with the collaborators to demonstrate the applicability of porous liquids to CO2 separation/capture, which also has future implications beyond biogas upgrading. You will have the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers with input from industrial partners; and benefit from a strong research network. We are also recruiting a Chemistry PDRA who will develop the porous liquid itself. There will be opportunities to liaise directly with the industrial partners, including regular site visits and on-site performance evaluation of the porous liquid.
The successful candidate must have, and you should clearly demonstrate this in your CV/Cover letter:
Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
