Research Fellow in Bioinformatics
Job description
Queen's University Belfast is one of the leading universities in the UK and Ireland, with a distinguished heritage and history. With over 24,000 students, 4,200 staff and an annual turnover of some GBP 300m, Queen's University Belfast plays a unique leadership role in Northern Ireland. As a member of the Russell Group of UK research-intensive universities,
Queen's University Belfast combines excellence in research and education with a student centred ethos.
Queen's University has generous terms and conditions of employment underpinned by excellent benefits. We also provide attractive well-being, family friendly and other lifestyle benefits.
The Centre for Experimental Medicine is an interdisciplinary research centre which is committed to the highest quality scientific endeavour, with over 250 basic and clinical scientists working on site. Our mission is to understand the mechanisms of disease and use that understanding to develop innovative new treatments and therapies to improve patient outcomes. We are based in Belfast in the award winning Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine.
We are recruiting for a Research Fellow in Bioinformatics who will be a highly productive, ambitious and collaborative member of the Gene Regulation Group led by Dr. Vijay Tiwari in the Centre for Experimental Medicine. The position will contribute to internationally competitive research on epigenetic regulation of cell-fate specification during development. The group employs high-throughput epigenomics assays such as ChIP-seq and RNA-seq in combination with developmental biology and cutting-edge epigenetics and molecular biology tools. The resulting datasets are analysed using computational and systems biology approaches to generate comprehensive models of epigenetic regulation of gene expression during embryonic development. The successful applicant will have responsibilities in independent research, supervision, planning, day-to-day lab management, collaborations and outreach.
The post is suited to a highly ambitious individual and is available for initially one year with the possibility of extension.
