With over 24,000 students, 4,200 staff and an annual turnover of some £300m, Queen’s University Belfast plays a unique leadership role in Northern Ireland. As a member of the Russell Group of UK research-intensive universities, Queen’s University Belfast combines excellence in research and education with a student centred ethos. As a leader of Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) development and delivery for 25 years, KTP is held in high regard within Queen’s and the programme has been the foundation for many research and teaching successes including 15 National KTP Awards. The KTP Programme has been helping businesses throughout the UK for over 40 years by recruiting suitably qualified graduates to take on a role that bridges academia and business.
As a KTP Associate you will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to a real life challenge that delivers tactical change within an organisation. A KTP is the perfect launchpad, helping enhance your career prospects by providing you with an opportunity to manage a challenging project central to a business’s strategic development and long term growth. You will have access to a substantial training and development budget and take ownership of a project, with the added support and guidance of Queen’s world class Academics. Through the KTP programme we wish to recruit a suitably qualified graduate to work in Linwoods (Co. Armagh) on a collaborative project with the Institute of Global Foods Security at Queen’s over 24 months.
Linwoods story started over 50 years ago with a small, local shop owned by the Woods family in Northern Ireland. Over the years the company grew to include a bakery and dairy business with one of the Woods’ sons John taking the helm.
In 1996 when John had a health setback he became fascinated by the benefits of food for health and wellbeing. On a mission to improve his own health and that of his family and friends, John came across the nutritional powerhouse that is Flaxseed. That was his ‘Eureka’ moment. Realising that he could make healthy eating convenient & accessible to everyone, our Health Food blends were born!
From humble beginnings our range of healthy seeds, nuts & berries has grown to include over 15 different premium blends and healthy seed snacks. Today we produce a range of healthy superfood combinations, which are a convenient, easy and quick way to gain a wide range of essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals in your diet.
Linwoods have now transferred this knowledge into producing Value added ingredients such as Sprouted grains and seeds.
We wish to recruit a dynamic and motivated graduate to optimise production processes to determine nutritional value of sprouted grains and seeds for use in the health food and bakery sectors. This will involve performing laboratory analysis on commercial samples and using this information to drive product development.
