Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Automation, Robotics & Control
Job description
For over 50yrs, Queen's University Belfast, through the Northern Ireland Technology Centre, has been supporting innovation with local industry. We have recently invested GBP 7.5M in new advanced manufacturing technologies aimed at supporting collaborative innovation activity with Industry. We are currently recruiting engineers to deliver our current
project portfolio with an aim to establishing capability for our future growth plans. This is an exciting opportunity for all engineers with an interest in innovation to become part of an exciting project to deliver advance manufacturing knowledge and capability within Northern Ireland industry and beyond.
To play a major role in the management and expansion of applied research, development, Innovation and knowledge transfer within the NITC, and in particular Automation & Robotics, that will have a direct technical, economic and reputational benefit to NITC, including the raising of funding from industry and major government sources (nationally and internationally). To develop international links and work closely with industry and government agencies. This includes supporting inward investment and supporting both indigenous and multi-national companies in all aspects of research and technology transfer, industrial and economic development. To undertake research, design and research-support activities in Automation & Robotics, working in collaboration with technology providers, national technology centres, academia and industry to deliver key projects. To support and develop Automation & Robotics strategies for the NITC and industry alike. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager the role will also have a supporting role to the Strategic Business and Planning Manager. This is a 30-month contract with a strict funding end date of 30 September 2022.
The successful candidate must have:
Honours Degree, or equivalent, in relevant engineering discipline with at least ten years' relevant experience.
Strong evidence of complex problem solving skills in an industrial environment
Experience of collaborative working in large multi-disciplinary research and development teams
Strong evidence of initiating, executing and managing industrial and/or research projects
Strong evidence of technical excellence and understanding of fundamental engineering concepts as evidenced by major reports, publications, patents or product designs.
Proven competence in the theory and implementation of Automation & Robotics with experience using relevant software packages: simulation, control & programming
Competent in the application of Automation and Robotic manufacturing equipment with demonstrable case studies
