Professor of Physical Geography
Job description
Applications are invited for the position of Professor to provide strong academic leadership and to complement and extend core research strengths in Physical Geography at Queen's University Belfast. The appointee will also help to revise and strengthen the Geography undergraduate degree programme and provide leadership in developing innovative postgraduate
taught programmes with international appeal.
Geography at Queen's has a strong and growing research base. First established as a department in 1928, Geography is now part of the School of Natural and Built Environment, a vibrant community of approximately 100 academic staff and researchers from six cognate disciplines: geography, architecture, planning, civil engineering, archaeology and palaeoecology. The School was founded in 2016 and has rapidly become a dynamic and innovative centre for research on the challenges and opportunities that face the natural and built environment across all scales in the 21st century. The appointee will join the School's Environmental Change and Resilience Research Cluster, a multi-disciplinary group comprising over 30 academic staff, including physical geographers, civil engineers, archaeologists and palaeoecologists. The cluster's outstanding research offers new ways of understanding natural drivers of environmental change and sustainable solutions that underpin decision-making for environmental managers. The new Chair will take advantage of the strong interdisciplinary potential within the cluster, the School and more widely in the Faculty and University.
Our staff and students come from all over the world and we strongly believe in an inclusive and supportive work culture. We recognise the changing demands of family life and the need for flexibility in working arrangements to meet these demands. As an academic at Queen's, you can benefit from our family friendly policies including flexible working, childcare voucher scheme and parental leave. We are proud to hold an Investors in People Silver accreditation, a Health and Wellbeing Good Practice Award, and a Silver Athena SWAN Award in recognition of our efforts to create a nurturing and supportive environment for our people so that they can develop and excel. We welcome applications from all persons regardless of gender, race, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
