Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University are working in partnership to establish an academic unit of excellence for paediatric cardiology research in Northern Ireland, as part of the All-Island congenital Heart Disease Network. Both Universities are collaborating to develop this initiative focussed on health innovation to transform and deliver cost effective high quality care to children and families living with Congenital Heart Disease, in addition to growing and developing the clinical workforce in Northern Ireland, ranging from postgraduate clinical training to interdisciplinary research projects. Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University are home to a series of state-of-the art Research Centres driving forward global development in the areas of Experimental Medicine, Genetics, Connected Health, Epidemiology, Medical Engineering and Personalized Medicine.
Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Professor in Paediatric Cardiology to lead this exciting new initiative. The successful candidate will develop the newly established Northern Ireland paediatric cardiology academic unit and will work in collaboration with colleagues in the Republic of Ireland as an integral part of the All-Island Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Network. This is an integrated appointment between Queen’s University Belfast/Ulster University and the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. The Clinical Professor will deliver and enhance clinical service, undertake research in line with the All-Island Congenital Heart Disease Network and Universities’ research strategies, teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level and contribute to administrative/outreach duties.

The All-Island Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Network was established in 2015 by the Republic of Ireland ROI & Northern Ireland Ministers of Health to provide high quality and timely access to specialist cardiac services for all children and young people on the island of Ireland. The CHD Network is the first cross-jurisdictional Network on the island, driving the implementation of evidence based, safe and effective cardiac care for children and young people across the island of Ireland.
