Job description
Queen's University Belfast is one of the leading universities in the UK and Ireland, with a distinguished heritage and history. With over 24,000 students, 3,700 staff and an annual turnover of some GBP 300m, Queen's University Belfast plays a unique leadership role in Northern Ireland. As a member of the Russell Group of UK research-intensive universities,
Queen's University Belfast combines excellence in research and education with a student centred ethos.
Queen's University has generous terms and conditions of employment underpinned by excellent benefits. We also provide attractive well-being, family friendly and other lifestyle benefits.
The School of Biological Sciences is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. It is made up of three research disciplines, including Ecosystems Biology & Sustainability, Food Safety & Nutrition, and Microbes & Pathogen Biology. Most staff within the School are also members of the Institute for Global Food Security GRI: the Institute is ranked No 1 in the UK for research intensity in Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Sciences (REF 2014).
The School aims to enhance the way we use technology in research, food security, microbiology, ecosystem biology, sustainability and many other related areas. The School prides itself on providing innovative teaching methods and a high-tech learning environment for our students and has been awarded the prestigious Athena SWAN Gold award in recognition of its work to support women in science.
The School is seeking to recruit a world-class scholar with an outstanding and recognised research record in the field of parasitology. Applicants should have an excellent track record of publication and be able to demonstrate a coherent plan of independent and sustainable research. Applicants' research should be distinct from, but clearly complementary to, the on-going activities of the School's Microbes & Pathogen Biology research theme, and have the potential to align with the Institute for Global Food Security.
Applicants with an excellent research track record in an area of parasitology that complements ongoing research are encouraged to apply, including those with expertise in the generation and analysis of bioinformatic data to inform understanding of parasite biology and/or in parasite diagnostics. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education, with relevant experience and a clear ability to contribute proactively to the Masters level programme in Parasitology & Pathogen Biology.
Applicants must have a willingness to engage in the broader administration and management of taught degree programmes within the School as well as internationalization activities and outreach and public engagement.
