This Clinical Trials Fellowship post within the colorectal and early phase clinical trials teams at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB)/Belfast Health and Social Care Trust to support the early phase clinical trial service and develop translational and clinical trials. The post will combine outpatient clinics, limited inpatient duties and clinical and translational research commitments. The focus of the role will be research (clinical/translational/scientific depending on post-holder’s experience and needs) and clinical service will mainly relate to follow up on treatment-related complications. Clinical supervision will be provided by the consultants within these teams, and the Fellow will be a valued member of the multidisciplinary team.

PGJCCR is committed to excellence in experimental cancer medicine with a programme focusing on translating scientific discovery into the development of biomarker-guided, biologically-informed clinical trials in our areas of disease strength: Gastrointestinal (including hepatobiliary), head and neck, urological, breast and ovarian cancers. This has resulted in the development and delivery of a number of investigator-led trials investigating novel agents and systemic therapy and radiotherapy combination studies. In recognition of this work the centre, in partnership with the Belfast HSC Trust, has retained its status as one of 18 adult centres within the Cancer Research UK Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) network.

This post holder will have experience in oncology but may be at any stage of training in medical or clinical oncology. This could include trainees with previous oncology experience who are post core medical training and wish to gain additional experience in oncology and research prior to entering specialty training, a specialty trainee wishing to gain out-of-programme research experience or a post-CCT trainee wishing to gain experience prior to a consultant appointment.
