Since 1845, Queen’s University Belfast staff, students and alumni have made a difference to societies locally, nationally, and internationally. Today, we are one of the UK and Ireland’s leading universities and continue to shape and serve the world around us through our research and teaching. Queen’s University ranks 202 in the 2024 QS World University Rankings and 99% of our research environment was assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent.
Queen’s University has always been a generator of knowledge. We tackle the issues faced by individuals and societies at a local, regional, and global level and we are an engine of progress that is central to the socio-economic success of Northern Ireland. Our contribution to the local and regional economy of Northern Ireland is currently estimated at over three billion pounds annually and we are the #2 university in the UK for entrepreneurial impact.
Queen’s University is seeking to appoint a Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor. The role of Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor is a cornerstone position, providing academic leadership across the University, along with oversight of academic planning and high impact innovative projects. The Provost has a pivotal role in ensuring that Queen’s University achieves the academic objectives set out for our Strategy 2030 and beyond. As a key partner to the Vice-Chancellor, the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor will provide strategic leadership, working closely with other members of the University Management Board and will also serve as Vice-Chair of the Board, as well as Chair of the Academic Council.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional individual who can bring strategic vision and leadership to the University community, building on the University’s strong foundations and recent successes. Candidates for the post will be individuals of significant international academic standing and with a successful track record of leadership, planning and resource management in a major academic institution. They will be committed to the achievement of world-class research and education and have a consultative, collaborative and open approach with an ability to operate and influence beyond the University locally, nationally and internationally. It is important that our Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor displays visible leadership to our faculties and professional services and builds positive relationships internally and externally.
This is a significant moment in the history of our university, and an exciting time to join the Queen’s University community. We have recently designed a new Executive Leadership team structure, to optimally align strategy oversight with operational delivery - making us more agile and better equipped to achieve our goals as we move forward.
