Research Fellow
Job description
Funded by Innovate UK, and working in collaboration with Rolls-Royce, this project running until end February 2020 is investigating novel structural designs for the integration of Power-plant, nacelle, pylon and wing systems for the next generation of commercial civil aircraft. Together with the on-going demand for weight reductions, the development
of more advanced powerplant systems requires new structural design solutions. Building on previous research in the School, the researcher will investigate integrated CAD and FEA modelling strategies, along with rapid structural design capabilities, to support a larger collaborative experimental programme.
The researcher will be in continual contact with the project partners, including regular visits to Rolls-Royce (in Derby, UK) and the supporting test facilities (in Cranfield, UK) during the project. The researcher will also present their work to project partners at regular technical meetings and workshops.
Applications should have a good degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related science. Ideally the applicant should have experience in Finite Element Modelling and structural design.
Informal enquiries may be directed to, Dr Damian Quinn, email:
d.quinn@qub.ac.uk
or telephone: +44(0)28 9097 4186
