Job description
We are recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to provide specialist technical services to support teaching in the School of Biological Sciences. The successful candidate will prepare, set up and carry out procedures for experiments for use by academic and students according to Standard Operating Procedures and Good Clinical Practice standards. The Laboratory
Technician will provide technical support and advice for the development and preparation of specimens and the use of equipment for practical classes using specialised skills and knowledge e.g. the processing of animal samples, and molecular biology techniques e.g. Gel electrophoresis, PCR, ELISA and Microbiology techniques
The successful candidate must have:
*
Academic and/or vocational qualifications ie OND/ONC and/or NVQ level 3 in relevant subject (or equivalent).
*
Three years relevant work experience to include experience in Biological Science Techniques (e.g Microbiological, Cell Culture, PCR, Eliza, Electrophoresis)
*
Experience in at least 2 of the following:
o
Laboratory protocols
o
Health and safety
o
Stock control and requisitioning
o
Management of Inventory

We host a cutting edge scientific research team and contribute to genuine new discoveries and the development of new methods of practical use. Many staff within the School are also members of the Institute for Global Food Security GRI: the Institute is ranked No 1 in the UK for research intensity in Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Sciences (REF 2014).
