The Centre for Public Health (CPH) sits within the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences (MDBS). The Centre aims to advance the health of the public at a regional, national and international level, by increasing knowledge and influencing clinical and public health practice and policy.
The School of MDBS was awarded the Silver Renewal Athena SWAN award in September 2016 in recognition of its work to support women in science.
We are recruiting for a Research Fellow who will work under the supervision of Dr. Ruth Hogg and Professor Tunde Peto in the CPH where they will assist in the analysis of NICOLA study ophthalmic data The research will use data analytics techniques (bioinformatics, data mining, machine learning, statistics, etc.) to analyse ophthalmic medical data including parameters extracted from medical images, genomic, biochemistry, clinical and lifestyle data which will be used for knowledge discovery purposes, e.g., to determine the best combination of factors for diagnosis and detecting clinical change over time. Some techniques for exploration include principal component analysis, correlation analysis, classification, sequence pattern analysis, anomaly detection, data visualization, etc. There will also be close collaboration with Dr Cheng Long at School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS).

The successful candidate must have:
*
Have or about to obtain a PhD in bioinformatics, genetics, statistics or other relevant fields
*
At least three years recent relevant experience of:
o
working with omic data and bioinformatics
o
conducting research in bioinformatics, data mining, machine learning or statistics and a publication record in line with stage of career in prestigious leading journals/conferences
o
using/developing one or more of the following data analytics techniques: principal component analysis, correlation analysis, classification, anomaly detection, sequence pattern, visualization
