This is a unique opportunity to pioneer a very new type of liquid solvent (porous liquid) toward a critical area of application (CO2 removal). We are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral researcher to work with Professor Stuart James (School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering) on a collaborative project with input from several industrial partners, funded by InvestNI. The project will require experience in the synthesis and analysis of porous materials.
You will provide the necessary chemistry expertise to build upon our recent work to design and develop appropriate porous liquids for selective CO2 capture in the context of biogas upgrading (principally the separation of CO2 from methane). You will work with the collaborators to demonstrate the applicability of porous liquids to CO2 separation/capture, which also has future implications beyond biogas upgrading. You will have the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers with input from industrial partners; and benefit from a strong research network. We are also recruiting a Chemical Engineering PDRA with whom you will work closely on this project. There will be opportunities to liaise directly with the industrial partners, including regular site visits and on-site performance evaluation of the porous liquid.
The successful candidate must have, and you should clearly demonstrate this in your CV/Cover letter:
Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
