The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Senior Technician (Genomic Technologist).

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day operation and organisation of clinically focussed Genomics projects and supervision of relevant laboratory activity across various projects. Providing high-level technical and organisational expertise and to be responsible for the co-ordination of laboratory and analytical procedures and workflows to ensure high standards of quality and performance.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:

• Academic or vocational qualifications (HNC/HND or higher e.g. NVQ, degree or equivalent standard) in a relevant scientific subject e.g. Biomedical Science, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry.

• 4 years’ recent relevant hands-on experience within a Health Science laboratory that includes molecular pathology and genomics.

• Experience in the discipline reflected in relevant involvement in academic, industry or research programmes.

• Ability to develop, troubleshoot and perform a range of technical duties to a very high standard.
• Significant experience with NGS in cancer specimens (FFPE, ctDNA, HMW).

• Experience in a CPA/UKAS environment, including SOP development.

• Experience with tissue-based work and clinical samples for molecular analysis.

This is a fixed term post available until 31/10/2024. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
