Research Assistant in Knowledge Engineering
Job description
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our dynamic team in the Applied Research and Engineering Centre, within the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. This exciting role forms part of a forward-looking research programme focused on natural language-based knowledge extraction and modelling for document
processing in the financial technology sector.
The postholder will work closely with academic and industry partners to develop methods and software tools that support advanced document analysis. This includes contributing to the design and development of research software prototypes, promoting research outcomes through high-quality publications and conferences, and supporting funding proposal development.
The role offers an excellent opportunity to collaborate in a multidisciplinary research environment, engage with cutting-edge AI and knowledge engineering techniques, and contribute to impactful innovation in the fintech domain.
About the person:
The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover letter should clearly demonstrate the following:
Hold at least a 2:1 honours degree in Computer Science or closely related disciplines.
Have or about to obtain an MSc degree in Computer Science or closely related disciplines.
Recent relevant experience to include:
Demonstrable experience in the use of natural language processing (NLP) or machine learning (ML) or knowledge engineering (KE) tools in an academic or industrial context.
Demonstrable experience in programming/scripting, beyond that taught in undergraduate engineering courses.
A proven track record of using relevant techniques to carry out analyses, critical evaluations, and interpretations of data in a research context.
Working effectively as part of a research team in the development and promotion of the research theme.
