Job description

We are seeking to recruit two Lecturers in Social Work to support the delivery of the Bachelor of Social Work.

The School's overall vision is to establish a learning community dedicated to quality in teaching, research, scholarship, and practice, while also contributing to local and worldwide initiatives to make a social difference.

Social Work at Queen’s is taught by a team of academics who are qualified and registered social workers. Everyone in the Social Work team is actively involved in research across a range of social issues and also engaged with practice development, to promote the best outcomes for individuals, families and communities.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

Education and Qualifications

  • Primary or higher degree in a social science subject. 
  • PhD or equivalent awarded or due for completion and to be awarded within 6 months of taking up post.
  • Professional qualification in Social Work. 
  • Eligible for and willingness to seek required registration as a social worker with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council. 
  • Substantial post qualifying experience following successful completion of Assessed Year in Employment or equivalent (which would be three years post qualifying experience). 

Research and Associated Activities 

  • Evidence of potential to secure external research grant income. 
  • Evidence of ability to apply qualitative and / or quantitative approaches to research projects  
  • Evidence of an ability to publish high quality work in peer reviewed/refereed journals that is REF returnable and at international level.  
  • Evidence of potential to contribute to the School’s national and international research networks. 

Teaching 

  • Experience of lecturing and/or tutoring at University level or equivalent. 
  • Experience in social work education and /or training. 

Management, Administration, and Contribution to the Community

  • Evidence of appropriate administrative experience, commensurate with stage of career. 
  • Evidence of potential to contribute to broader management and administrative processes.
