About the job:
This Research Fellow post will contribute to the EPSRC-SFI project “Quantum control for robust ultracold atomic sensors (Croutons)”. The role will focus on research in the control of quantum systems, particularly within quantum science and technologies. The postholder will aim to be a productive, ambitious and collaborative member of the project team, supporting the development, planning and delivery of research activity.
The role will involve theoretical and computational research, analysis and interpretation of experimental data and literature, and the production of high-quality research outputs aligned with the aims of the project. The postholder will work with the Principal Investigator, project team and external partners, including collaborators at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, University College Dublin and the University of Kaiserslautern. The role will also include contributing to publications, conference dissemination, funding proposals, project planning, and activities that support the successful delivery of the research programme.
About the person:
Applicants should normally have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in theoretical physics, with a PhD in theoretical quantum science and technology being desirable. They should have specific and relevant research experience in quantum science and technology, including experience of using theoretical and computational methods to analyse, critically evaluate and interpret research results.
The successful candidate will have experience of working effectively as part of a research team and contributing to the development and promotion of a research theme. A strong publication record commensurate with career stage in quantum science and technology is desirable, as is a proven track record in theoretical research in quantum optimal control and related methods, and research experience with ultracold atoms.
Applicants should have practical problem-solving skills, independence of thought and initiative, the ability to assess and organise resources, and the ability to communicate complex information effectively in English, both orally and in writing. They should also be able to build effective internal and external relationships and demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
