The Centre for Translation and Interpreting seeks a highly productive, ambitious and collaborative individual to be a member of our Deaf Studies/Sign Language research project, assisting in the development of research proposals and the planning and delivery of research activity, particularly for projects that will have a direct benefit for the Northern Irish Deaf community.

The successful applicant will have responsibilities in independent research and outreach, as well as regular reporting to our funders and sponsors – the Department for Communities and the Ulster Society for the Education of the Deaf and Blind. Areas of particular interest to the project are:

• Accessibility and Inclusion for d/Deaf students in Further and Higher Education.
• To what extent and in what ways is poverty experienced by the d/Deaf community?
• The d/Deaf community and ageing - experiences of older d/Deaf people in Northern Ireland.
• The identification of positive role models for young d/Deaf people.

Preference may therefore be given to applicants who demonstrable ability to undertake research and produce outputs in at least one of these areas.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

• 1.  Relevant PhD.
• 2.  Level 6 BSL, or the equivalent for ISL (or above).
• 3.  Recent relevant* research experience to include
  • Experience of research in the area relevant to this project
  • Working effectively as part of a research team in the development and promotion of Deaf Studies
  • Track record of publication and report writing, commensurate with stage

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
